Dialysis is an effective and efficient way to treat your kidney disorder. It replaces lost kidney function, removing toxic waste from the blood stream and keeping your body balanced until it can fix itself back to normal. By stimulating the growth of new cells in the kidneys, kidney dialysis restores a close-to-normal level of internal chemicals.

It is usually performed three times per week for four hours at a time using an external device that delivers fluids and electrolytes through a special tube called an arteriovenous fistula (AVF).
