Diabetology

Diabetes mellitus is a disorder in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Diabetologists are physicians who specialize in the treatment, prevention and education of patients with diabetes mellitus. They provide evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy), cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and other forms of diabetes.

The treatment of diabetes focuses on lifestyle modifications and the use of medications to correct hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) and normoglycemia (normal blood sugar).
